The woman, Stormy Daniels, answered questions from Manhattan prosecutors for several hours Tuesday before Mr. Trump’s lawyers began cross-examining her, and she will return to the stand Thursday. After that encounter, his bodyguard, Keith Schiller, told Ms. Daniels that Mr. Trump would like to have dinner with her, she said. Image Mr. Trump has denied the charges against him, and having had sex with Ms. Daniels. Mr. Trump was wearing “silk or satin” sleepwear, Ms. Daniels testified; after she cracked a joke — “Does Mr. Hefner know you stole his pajamas?” — he changed his clothes. Stormy Daniels Returns to the Stand

The woman who said she had a one-night sexual encounter with a man who became president will take the witness stand again on Thursday in a Lower Manhattan courtroom. The witness, Stormy Daniels, on Tuesday started to tell her account — sometimes nervously, sometimes graphically and often quickly — of a liaison in a Nevada hotel suite with that man, Donald J. Trump. The court session took its weekly Wednesday break with Ms. Daniels about to discuss the $130,000 hush-money deal paid by Mr. Trump’s former fixer, Michael D. Cohen, in the days before the 2016 election. The 34 felony counts against Mr. Trump stem from his repayment to Mr. Cohen after he became president, and the recording of the checks as “legal expenses” at the Trump Organization. Prosecutors say it was a deliberate mislabeling meant to conceal the hush-money deal and amount to a falsification of business records.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, was selected by the Florida GOP as an at-large delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention, according to a list of delegates obtained by CNN. Barron joins several other family members – Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump – who were also selected. Before Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial began, his attorneys had asked for May 17 off so that he could attend Barron’s graduation. The Republican National Committee will hold its convention in Milwaukee in July. Last month, the RNC asked the Secret Service to keep protesters farther back from the convention than is currently planned.

Investor found guilty in Trump Media insider trading case

CNN —An investor in the shell company that merged with Trump Media was found guilty on Thursday of insider trading linked to that blockbuster deal, according to federal prosecutors. “Garelick’s federal conviction is yet another stark reminder that insider trading is always a losing bet.”Garelick was among three men who were arrested and charged last June in the insider trading case. The other two, Florida venture capitalist Michael Shvartsman and his brother Gerald Shvartsman, pleaded guilty last month to participating in the insider trading scheme. Prosecutors have not alleged that former President Donald Trump, the chairman and leading shareholder of Trump Media, had any involvement in the scheme. Beyond their own purchases, prosecutors say Garelick and his co-defendants tipped off friends and colleagues who also bought securities in Digital World before the Trump Media deal was announced publicly.

The Major Supreme Court Cases of 2024No Supreme Court term in recent memory has featured so many cases with the potential to transform American society. In 2015, the Supreme Court limited the sweep of the statute at issue in the case, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. In 2023, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked efforts to severely curb access to the pill, mifepristone, as an appeal moved forward. A series of Supreme Court decisions say that making race the predominant factor in drawing voting districts violates the Constitution. The difference matters because the Supreme Court has said that only racial gerrymandering may be challenged in federal court under the Constitution.

Stormy Daniels as We Had Never Seen Her

There is a certain irony to the fact that the most consequential role Stormy Daniels, the adult entertainer at the heart of the Trump criminal trial, may ever play is taking place off screen. Her blond hair was caught up in the back with bits escaping to shield her face, and she was wearing black-frame glasses and little makeup. On Thursday, when her cross-examination resumed, she was obscured by the same dark cloak, though underneath was a plain green dress. She wore her hair down and a necklace her daughter had made. Ms. Daniels has often been discussed as the most colorful part of the case — the bringer of salacious detail, the source of the juicy tell-all.

Her evidence on Tuesday was deeply embarrassing for Trump and drew an aggressive cross-examination from his attorney trying to shatter Daniels’ credibility. Merchan also instructed Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, to rein in his client after complaining that the defendant had cursed audibly and shaken his head during Daniels’ testimony. So far, Trump — who has launched searing attacks on the judge — has managed to refrain from openly attacking Daniels since she took the stand. And her appearance is only an appetizer for expected explosive evidence in the coming days of the biggest star witness, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen. The coming days will therefore require qualities that Trump has always struggled to demonstrate in a riotous life in business and politics: restraint and self-discipline.

A fourth person said some of the companies were notified on Tuesday that their licenses were revoked effective immediately. The U.S. Commerce Department earlier in the day confirmed it had revoked some licenses but stopped short of naming the companies. “We have revoked certain licenses for exports to Huawei,” the Commerce Department said in a statement, declining to specify which ones it had withdrawn. The move could hurt Huawei, which still relies on Intel chips to power its laptops, and could hurt US suppliers that do business with the company. In a regulatory filing earlier this month, Qualcomm said it did not expect to receive more chip revenue from Huawei beyond this year.

The resulting hung jury would be just the vindication that Mr. Trump needs. Even if hiding the purpose of the $130,000 payoff to Ms. Daniels violated New York law, the juror might think, so what? Everyone already knows Mr. Trump is a liar and a cad, a womanizer and a cheat. Again and again, Ms. Daniels testified in much greater detail, and with more editorializing, than was asked of her. Mr. Trump’s lawyers objected often, and when they didn’t, Justice Juan Merchan stepped in himself, testily warning Ms. Daniels more than once to “just answer the questions.”

Other VP contenders at the weekend meeting included Stefanik, Scott and North Dakota Gov. This may help to explain why some influential Trump donors are especially wary of Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Rubio, Stefanik, Scott and Burgum have all privately been pitched to Trump as top prospects with close ties to top business leaders. Those ties could bolster Trump's fundraising operation if one of them is chosen as his running mate, according to people familiar with the matter. Burgum could even help to self-fund Trump's campaign, just as he did for his own Republican primary run for president.

President Joe Biden will visit the political battleground state of Wisconsin on Wednesday to announce plans by Microsoft Corp to build a $3.3 billion high-tech data center that will create thousands of jobs, the White House said. Microsoft's plans will result in 2,300 union construction jobs and some 2,000 permanent jobs over time, the White House said. It said nearly 4,000 jobs had been added in Racine since Biden took office, while about 1,000 manufacturing jobs were lost during the Trump administration. Biden is seeking to shore up support among Black voters ahead of the November presidential election, with national polls showing him essentially tied with Republican Trump. The Biden campaign on Wednesday announced the launch of a $14 million ad campaign, which will include a seven-figure investment targeting Black, Latino and Asian voters.

It's just the latest legal win for Trump in the classified documents case handed to him by Cannon. Ty Cobb, a former Trump White House attorney, told CNN on Tuesday that Cannon's latest decision was "a combination of bias and incompetence." Then the industrial compressor flattens a row of paint cans, buckles a piano and levels what appears to be a marble bust. In a final act of destruction, it pops the eyes out of a ball-shaped yellow emoji. When the compressor rises, it reveals Apple’s latest commodity: the updated iPad Pro. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, posted the advertisement, called “Crush,” on Tuesday after the company held an event to announce new tablets. “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created,” Mr. Cook wrote, adding, “Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.”

TikTok is suing the US government over its new law that forces a sale or ban of the app. AdvertisementTikTok promised to fight its ban in the US — and now the social-media giant has made it official. TikTok has denied both of these claims, and the US government has yet to present evidence that either action has occurred. Legal scholars told Business Insider that well-articulated First Amendment arguments tend to prevail in court, but Congress' national-security concerns could ultimately win out. Hans, an associate clinical professor of law at Cornell Law School and associate director of its First-Amendment clinic, told BI.

Circuit, argues that the bill, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, violates constitutional protections of free speech. Now, legal proceedings will pause that timeline, meaning it could be years before a ban goes into effect. Tuesday's lawsuit is the latest development in what has become a multi-year effort by the U.S. government to effectively ban TikTok. Efforts to rein in the popular video-sharing app have persisted since 2020 under both the Trump and Biden administrations. The federal government and dozens of states have already banned the use of TikTok on government-owned devices.

He learned late Tuesday afternoon that Judge Aileen Cannon, whom he appointed, indefinitely postponed a trial in his classified documents case in Florida. She told the jury Tuesday about a $130,000 hush money payment she received from Cohen before the 2016 election. But prosecutors allege Trump falsified business records to hide it and to mislead voters in an early bout of election interference. The judge complained that the ex-president was “cursing audibly” during Daniels’ testimony and was shaking his head. “Am I correct that you hate President Trump?” Necheles asked.

Testimony in the criminal trial of Donald J. Trump has pivoted from weeks of salacious stories of sex and scandal to focus on the financial transactions at the center of the case. A current and a former employee in the Trump Organization’s accounting department on Monday walked jurors through the dry but crucial financial records that tie Mr. Trump to reimbursements made to his longtime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, for a $130,000 hush-money payoff to a porn star days before the 2016 election. The porn star, Stormy Daniels, who said she had sex with Mr. Trump in 2006, wanted to go public about her encounter in 2016, but Mr. Cohen made a deal to bury her story before Election Day. The former president is accused of falsifying business records to cover up reimbursements to Mr. Cohen, who made the hush-money payment himself.
